In October, Hillsboro police seized 150 live rabbits from the home of Miriam Sakewitz and found nearly 100 more dead ones in a trio of freezers. On Jan. 14, volunteers found a lock and chain-link enclosure cut from a "secure, undisclosed location" and 130 of the bunnies were gone. Police Commander Chris Skinner said suspicion fell immediately on Sakewitz. Police say she is obsessed with the rabbits. On Monday, police stopped Sakewitz in a traffic stop. Skinner said the woman was so upset it took four officers to subdue her. In her car were nine rabbits. One was dead. The other 132 rabbits were found a a horse farm nearby that police had seen her drive to.
